Pumpkin PaloozaAlthough we’re still a week away from the biggest weekend of the year in town, there’s enough fun stuff happening in Safety Harbor this weekend to help make the time fly.

In advance of the back-to-back behemoths of the Main Street Trick or Treat and the Wine Festival that will pack downtown Safety Harbor next Friday and Saturday, respectively, this weekend features a couple of cool events that should provide plenty of fun for the whole family: a pumpkin carving contest and the all-British car show.

The “Pumpkin Palooza” carving contest takes place tonight, Friday, Oct. 24 from 6-9pm at the Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center, and it promises to be a great event to help get the kids in the Halloween spirit.

Admission is free, and officials will provide the paint, glitter, stickers and carving tools to help make the creations stand out. All they ask is that guests BYOP (bring your own pumpkin)!

For more information on Pumpkin Palooza, contact the Museum and Cultural center at 727-724-1562.

On Saturday, October 25, another British invasion hits the Harbor, as the always popular All British Autojumble and Field Meet takes over the downtown district from 10am – 3pm.

Cool cars like this Mini Cooper will abound at the All British Car Show Saturday.
Cool cars like this Mini Cooper will abound at the All British Car Show on Saturday.

Now in its 8th year in town, the car show, which is hosted by the Tampa Bav Austin Healey Club, features hundreds of vehicles of all shapes, sizes and colors from across the pond, plus food and merchandise vendors, live entertainment, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and awards for the best entries in a variety of categories.

TBAHC president Bill Borja said the event has been such a success in town, especially in recent years, because the theme of the show meshes perfectly with the downtown Safety Harbor backdrop.

“Safety Harbor has a reputation for being a quaint community,” Borja told Safety Harbor Connect.com.

“So to bring these old cars in and line the street, where people can stroll and shop and eat and walk up and down and look at the cars, it’s the perfect location or our show.”

Admission for the event is free, but you’ll want to have cash on hand to buy that miniature Mini Cooper model you’ve always wanted, or anything emblazoned with the colorful Union Jack!

In addition to these special events, many establishments in town will have live music and food and drink specials, and don’t forget the Jolley Trolley is available to take people to and from Safety Harbor all weekend long.
