Harbor Happenings: Oct. 10-12, 2014
The fall special events season is in full swing in Safety Harbor, with the first one, Harbor Sounds Music Fest, in the rearview mirror and a number of big events on the horizon.
This weekend is somewhat of a quiet one in town; call it the calm before the British car show/Third Friday/ Halloween/Wine Fest storm that is soon to come.
Tomorrow, Junk in the Trunk, the city’s semi-annual community yard sale, takes place at the Community Center, located at 650 9th Avenue South.
This event is always a fun way to forage for unique items while mingling with hundreds of Harborites who are there to enjoy the (normally) nice weather and the community camaraderie as much as to find that ideal gift idea.
Another terrific event that is taking place this weekend is a fundraiser for an abused animal who is looking for a permanent home.
The caring folks at Tupelo on 4th and the Dog House of Safety Harbor are hosting the event in honor of Micah, a beautiful young pooch who was abused by his owner and suffered horrible acts of animal cruelty.
The “Shop till You Drop FUNdraiser” will run from 3-6 p.m. on 4th Avenue North, which will be blocked off from through traffic, allowing patrons to roam the road and enjoy the many activities organizers have lined up for the event.
Some of the highlights of the fundraiser include:
- 15% off any item at the Dog House of Safety Harbor, which is located inside Tupelo on 4th
- Food, beer and wine
- Dog friendly patio area
- Raffles
- Dog photography
- An appearance by Micah himself
The best part of the whole event, which is also being sponsored by the Suncoast Animal League, is 100% of the profits from every item purchased will go towards Micah’s medical bills.
In addition to these special events, many establishments in town will have live music and food and drink specials, and the Jolley Trolley is available to take riders around town and even all the way to Dunedin and Clearwater Beach, thanks to a recent extension of the transit service’s agreement with the city.
