We already have one old, famous Southern Live Oak (quercus virginiana), the Baranoff Tree, in Safety Harbor, but did you know that we have another live oak whose trunk is three inches larger and is approximately the same age?

In the Art Park behind the Library, just south of the Elf Tree, lives the No Name Oak, boasting a width of 85 feet, towering 75 feet high. The bigger Baranoff Oak, with a width of 120 feet, may be famous, but the No Name Oak which splits into two five foot wide massive trunks, with branches dripping in Spanish moss, covered in resurrection fern resembling an old, bearded man, needs to be recognized too.

Help us name this regal tree with gnarly wood and wrinkled with scars of past lightning strikes. Enter our Name the No Name Oak contest from August 15 through September 20, for a chance to become famous and win a $50 in gift cards from local Safety Harbor restaurants, courtesy the Friends of the Safety Harbor Library.  The winning entry will be announced on Thursday, September 29, 6:30 pm at a Tree Pruning and Care Workshop presented by city arborist Art Finn at the Library.  A tree walking tour will follow the workshop.

For contest rules and how to enter, visit www.SafetyHarborLibrary.com.  The Library is located at 101 2nd Street North, Safety Harbor.
