LEARN: Want to learn a language or brush up for that trip to Europe? Visit our website, and you’ll find Mango Languages, an interactive way to learn French, Hebrew, Spanish, German or one of 33 other languages. Do you need to hone your computer skills or just got an iPad and need some tips? Sign up for one of our computer classes or schedule a one-on-one session.
SAVE: If you resolved to save money and love music, we have Freegal! Download three songs a week for free. Did you get an e-reader for Christmas or Hanukah and want to download free e-books? Check out 3M, Axis 360, and OverDrive for our collection of electronic and audio books. Want to stream films? We have IndieFlix, offering free independent movies of all genres. Our Friends of the Library Book Store is open every day with quality books for sale for only a dollar or two. (Sales pitch, the next Friends of the Library Book Sale is March 8, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.)
GENEALOGY RESEARCH: If your resolution includes researching your family history, Ancestry, an online resource accessible inside any Pinellas County Library, provides access to US census data, immigration information, passenger lists, birth, marriage, death, and military records, plus tools to create family records.
HEALTH: Did you resolve to exercise and eat better? Check our DVDs on yoga, Zumba, or weight training, or find a new cookbook packed with healthy recipes. If you live close to the Library, make it a walking destination and return your items on foot, burning calories and saving the fuel at the same time.
SMALL BUSINESS: If you always wanted to start a small business or have questions about your existing enterprise, the Library has numerous books and resources, such as AtoZ Databases, to help with your marketing and business plans. You can also schedule a counseling session with a SCORE representative to get your specific questions answered.
VOLUNTEER: If you vowed to volunteer and give back, the Library has opportunities in all facets of the Library, including tutors for English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The next tutor training session is in February. Visit our website or call for location and class details.
WRITE: Have you resolved to put your pen to paper and write the next great American novel or short story? If so, our Creative Writers & Story Circle Group meets every third Wednesday, 6:00 pm and the Safety Harbor Writers and Poets meets fourth Thursdays, 6:00 pm.
LAND THAT JOB: Utilize public PCs to create and print a new resume and email potential employers. Looking to change careers? LearningExpress prepares you for a range of career-oriented licensing and certification exams in health care, education, civil service, and more. Find it on our website.
EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS: Attend any number of our free programs or speakers on various topics for adults and children. You may even make some new friends when you’re here.
