The 2014 Bloom N Art N Chalk fest kicks off this Friday night.
The 2014 Bloom N Art N Chalk fest kicks off this Friday night.

Spring is officially upon us, and the season’s event schedule is in full swing in Safety Harbor.

Beginning with Third Friday tonight, there are a number of special events taking place this weekend that should pack the downtown district with patrons looking for fun festivities while they are enjoying the glorious Florida weather.

Third Friday will serve as the launching pad for the 2014 Bloom N Art N Chalk Fest, a spectacular showcase of local and nationally renowned chalk artists who will decorate Main Street with their original colorful creations.

The festival kicks off Friday evening with a “soft chalking” by some of the artists before it really gets rolling on Saturday morning.

Also on Friday, the new boutique Tupelo on 4th will have its grand opening to introduce its unique styles to the public.

On Saturday night, chalk fest organizers are hosting a block party at the 8th Avenue Pub, complete with food, drink, live music and the chance to mingle with the artists.

“That’s something new we decided to do this year,” event co-organizer Bobbie Wheeler told Safety Harbor Connect. “It will be a good opportunity for members of the public to meet the artists in a relaxed atmosphere.”

On Sunday the festival will piggyback with the Kiwanis Club as they host their semi-annual arts and crafts fair.

While the organization normally held their spring event in May, officials decided to move it up this year to coincide with Chalk Fest, according to festival co-organizer Stacy Roth.

Finally, the chalk fest will conclude at around 4:00 Sunday afternoon, when the award winners are announced and the show wraps up.

By that time, everybody should be good and tired thanks, to another jam-packed weekend full of events in the Harbor!
