There’s something special happening in Safety Harbor on Saturday, April 26th—and it’s more than just sunshine and scenic views. It’s a day full of connection, compassion, and community strength, as families, friends, and supporters gather for the Walk to Defeat ALS at the Waterfront Park.

To learn more about what makes this walk such a powerful event, we sat down with event coordinator Samantha Schneider, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at why this walk matters, how it helps, and why Safety Harbor has become one of the most meaningful backdrops for this inspiring cause.

What makes the Walk to Defeat ALS such a meaningful event for participants, families and the community?

The Walk to Defeat ALS is truly a powerful, community-driven event. People come together to honor loved ones, support families living with ALS, and raise critical funds for care and research. It’s a day filled with connection, hope, and purpose—a bright light in the midst of a dark disease. For many, it’s one of the only times they feel surrounded by others who understand their journey.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining or donating for the first time?

When someone gives or walks, they’re not just spreading awareness—they’re delivering real help today and fueling hope for tomorrow. Our mission is to make ALS livable and to ultimately cure it. The Ice Bucket Challenge showed the world what awareness and funding can do—we discovered 12 new ALS-related genes and boosted research funding significantly. Join us and be part of unlocking the cure.

Why was Safety Harbor chosen for this event location?

We were brainstorming locations with our incredible volunteer committee, and someone suggested Waterfront Park in Safety Harbor. Since then, this community has truly opened its arms to us. The park is stunning—right on the water with a peaceful, scenic route. It’s become the perfect place for our ALS community to walk, connect, and feel supported.

Event Details:

Bring your friends, family, and furry companions—whether you’re walking, donating, or just cheering from the sidelines, your presence makes a difference. Together, we can take one step closer to a world without ALS.
