Principles Over Politics: Preserving America’s Greatness

January 20, 2017: Inauguration Day, the passing of the torch. Above all, this day is about honoring our country, its constitution, and its forward movement. This is not about one person, or one political party. Individual leaders and political power shift. But our nation, built on solid ground, must endure.
The country is destined to move ahead with vision. Those who are pleased with the election need to focus on continuing to build and improve America. Nothing is gained from dismantling the previous administration’s accomplishments solely to satisfy partisan spitefulness.
Those not pleased by the election, must judge the new administration on its merits, supporting good decisions, yet heeding the call to action if policies threaten the established rights of the citizenry.
In our own way, each of us is guided by principles that transcend politics. Principles that call upon us to be our best selves. Principles of honesty, integrity, compassion, equality, dignity responsibility.
Through the will of the people, America has righted many wrongs. Slavery has been abolished, women have voting and property rights, children can no longer work in sweat shops, African Americans no longer hang from trees in the south, crimes against gays no longer go unpunished.
Our country’s movement is forward, not backward. There is no need to make America great again; there is just the need to maintain and improve upon the greatness that already exists within each of us.

Ain’t it great to see a President truly drain the swamp of “Pass it before you read it”, “If I had a son” and so many other false narratives like BLM and fake words that divide us. I’m sure we can agree the last 8 years of failure will be improved upon once the never Trump crowd stops listening to the agenda driven types that supported Clintons continuation of the previous administrations false change and fear driven politics. I am so happy that my vote to make our country great again helped to bring about positive change for everyone of my fellow citizens. All aboard the Trump train.
Janice, I have to believe that in the long run, goodness and the Constitution will prevail.
As always, well said, Amy! My head agrees with you but my heart is having trouble with it. I have not heard anything from the President-elect since the election, including his appointments, that gives me any confidence that he has any idea about how to govern. I am very nervous and scared for this country and the world.
