Commission To Vote on Jolley Trolley Issue Tonight

The Safety Harbor City Commission convenes again this evening, and as usual, there are some important items on the agenda.
One of the biggest items to be discussed is the Jolley Trolley issue.
As has been reported here on Safety Harbor Connect, the city has worked out an agreement to bring the Clearwater based transit service to town for an 8-month trial run beginning in February.
Under the terms of the agreement, the cost of the service, roughly $80,000, will be split three ways – through a federal grant ($40,000), PSTA funding ($21,667) and by the City of Safety Harbor ($21,667).
Of the City’s portion, $5,000 will be covered by the Safety Harbor Spa and Resort, $5,000 will be covered by the Chamber of Commerce/downtown merchants, and $11,667 will be paid by the City via CRA funding that has already been allocated for FY 2013-14.
According to city officials, the Spa has already handed in its check, and nearly all the money has been collected from merchants, a prospect that was looking bleak just a few weeks ago. The full participation should allow the measure to pass with little resistance.
Other items on the agenda include an increase in full time positions for the parks department, an update to the City’s capital improvements schedule, and an amendment that would modify the City’s land development code which would bring homes built before 1950 up to current code as well as help establish a new Flex Business/Industrial (FBI) district downtown.
The City Commission meets at Safety Harbor City Hall, located at 750 Main Street. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
